About Philmac

Every artist has a beginning.

Mine didn’t begin with a record deal.

It didn’t begin with streaming.

It didn’t begin with social media.

It began in Birmingham, Alabama, where three teenagers believed they could build something that would outlive them.

That dream became Phunky Entertainment.

Everything created today—from the music to the production, sound design, and creative direction—grows from that same vision.

This isn’t just about making records.

It’s about building a body of work that lasts.

The Story of Madmen, Phunky Entertainment, the Demos That Started It All

We both loved music.

We loved drawing.

Visual effects.

Movies.

Ideas.

After hearing some of the earliest music I was creating, Corey believed in what I was doing.

Not long afterward he introduced me to Sir Nat.

The three of us became friends.

Then we became a group.

We called ourselves Madmen.

Even though we were teenagers, we weren’t thinking small.

We weren’t trying to make one demo.

We weren’t trying to become local rappers.

We wanted to build a record company.

We Already Had a Blueprint

Most people our age were thinking about graduating.

We were thinking about the next twenty years.

Before we had money…

Before we had studio equipment…

Before we knew how difficult the music business would be…

We already had a complete vision.

Our company would be called Phunky Entertainment.

Madmen would introduce the world to the label.

Then each artist would develop their own identity while remaining part of something bigger.

Madmen

What Album?

The album that would introduce the group and establish the Phunky Entertainment name.

The title itself reflected our personalities.

“Have you heard the new Madmen album?”

“What album?”

“No…

What Album?”

We loved ideas like that.

C-Man

The Adventures of C-Man

C-Man represented lyrical creativity.

Hip-hop.

Wordplay.

Technical rapping.

He brought an energy that pushed everyone around him to become better.

Sir Nat

Out

Sir Nat represented the streets.

His perspective balanced the group.

He gave our music a different voice and another point of view.
 

Me

I was the producer.

That was my role from day one.

My job wasn’t simply to make beats.

My job was to build the musical world where all of our voices could exist together.

While C-Man and Sir Nat wrote lyrics, I obsessed over melodies.

Drums.

Bass.

Keyboards.

Arrangement.

Atmosphere.

Emotion.

I wanted the music itself to tell part of the story.

Eventually the guys encouraged me to rap as well.

Without realizing it, I was slowly becoming more than just the producer.

I was discovering my own artistic voice.

The Beginning of My Philosophy

Even then, I knew I wanted something different.

I loved hip-hop.

But I also loved Prince.

Michael Jackson.

George Clinton.

Pink Floyd.

Film scores.

Rock music.

Electronic music.

Soul.

Funk.

I didn’t want to make records that lived inside one genre.

I wanted to build worlds.

I wanted every album to feel like entering a different universe.

One album might lean into funk.

Another into rock.

Another into electronic music.

Another into philosophy.

Another into storytelling.

Hip-hop would always be the foundation.

Everything else would be free to evolve.

That idea has guided my music ever since.

We Created With Whatever We Had

We didn’t own expensive equipment.

We didn’t have professional studios.

We had imagination.

We beatboxed.

Freestyled.

Wrote lyrics.

Made demos.

Borrowed equipment.

Dreamed constantly.

Like countless artists before us, we created because we couldn’t imagine not creating.

Looking back, those moments mattered more than we realized.

When Life Changed

Life rarely follows the plans you make as a teenager.

As time passed, the group slowly went in different directions.

I had already invested heavily in recording sessions and studio time.

Instead of giving up, I continued.

That journey eventually became my first album…

P-Funk.

Then something happened that permanently changed all of our lives.

In 1999, Corey—C-Man—passed away.

His death ended the future we had imagined together.

But it didn’t end the dream.

The original blueprint could never happen exactly as we planned.

So the dream evolved.

The Demos

One of the greatest gifts I have from that period is that I kept some of our earliest recordings.

I still own one of the original demo cassettes.

Years later I transferred it to CD so it would survive.

Those recordings include songs such as:

• Piece (The Remix)
• Hot Cat Caper

These aren’t polished releases.

They aren’t presented because they’re perfect.

They’re presented because they’re history.

They capture the moment Phunky Entertainment first came to life.

Out of respect for C-Man and his family, I have chosen not to publish recordings centered around him.

Some memories belong to history.

Some belong to family.

Looking Back

It’s amazing to realize that ideas created by three teenagers are still shaping my music decades later.

P-Funk became my first released album.

Live My Life began as an idea in 1991 and was finally released in 2026.

War In Heaven brings together nearly everything I’ve been learning about music, philosophy, faith, storytelling, production, and life since those early days.

Nothing exists by itself.

Every song connects to another.

Every album connects to another.

Every project is part of one larger story.

The dream never restarted.

It simply continued.

When you hear my music today, you’re hearing a journey that began decades ago.

The path changed.

The people changed.

Life changed.

But the purpose never did.

The music never stopped.

And in many ways…

you’re not arriving at the end of the story.

You’re arriving at the beginning.
